It came down to the last ten seconds

Students and staff compete in basketball game

For the past five years, students and staff have competed in our annual School Choice Staff vs Students basketball game. This event event is a celebration of our Jaguar culture and community. Every year, much to the chagrin of students, the staff have come out victorious.

At the start of the game, the staff took an early advantage by winning the tip-off. Over the next several minutes, the students and staff were neck and neck, continuously just a point or two over each other.

“I was impressed with their skills,” said freshman player, Jhaylen Cotton, “they were much better at basketball than I would have given them credit for.” After the first half, the staff was winning, 24-21.

During the half-time show, middle school students and staff competed in a relay race featuring four “Minute to Win It” games such as the “Frozen Shirt” and “No Hands Cookie Eating” challenge. In the final, moments, the staff team won the relay race and received many applause and high-fives from fellow staff members.

Our Jaguar cheerleaders also got a moment to rally some school spirit with their half-time performance.

In the second half, the spread was thin, with only a couple of points separating the two teams. Ultimately, it came down to the last ten-seconds of the game in which Mr. Burak, HSAT’s high school Turkish teacher, missed a jump shot that would have put the staff ahead.

Instead, the students ran out the the clock securing their first victory in over five years. Mr. Terry, HSAT Athletic Director, said, “The students cam out and played really hard. You have to give credit to the students who left everything out on the court today.” The final score was 31-30. Congratulations to all of the students who competed.
